And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. – Acts 17:10-12

II Timothy 3:16 tells us that God’s written Word is sufficient to guide and direct every step of a “man of God” whether he be a craftsman, artisan, contractor, or statesman: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

We need to be as the Bereans and see if God’s word does not condemn not only the current but every health care bill the government may propose:

“Thou shalt not steal”

God has given each person and family its own private property. “Thou shalt not steal” implies what God gave me may not be taken by anyone else, including the government. This is the exact opposite of the Communist Manifesto’s “abolition of all private property”.

Loving Our Neighbors

“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” – I Timothy 5:18

This tells us that God has given each and every individual man the duty to provide for himself and his own household all that they need.

According to I Timothy 5:16; Galatians 6:10; and Luke 10:25-37 we also have a duty to show mercy to the destitute, especially those who are believers.

God’s laws are linked together, which means that the breaking of one of the Ten Commandments will affect the way we keep the other nine.

When an already overstuffed, oppressive government takes what it has not been authorized by the Constitution to take*, that affects how much I may be able to share with others.

Yet, as best we are able, Leviticus 19 tells us: “you shall love your neighbor as yourself”, and Isaiah 58:7 tells us the fasting God honors is manifested if you voluntarily** “share your bread with the hungry [and] bring to your house the poor who are cast out”.  I John 3:17 puts the test to those who claim to be Christians but refuse to voluntarily act like it:

“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?”

Limited Government

Romans 13:1-7 tells us that government has no authority whatsoever except the limited amount God gave it.

It’s mandate is extremely limited – to be His “minister” and “servant” to punish evildoers (God’s word defines good & evil- Psalm 119:128; Rom. 13:8-11) and praise those who do good.

“For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” -Romans 13:3,4

Great government takes its motto from King David, whom God made great.  David wrote: “The God is Israel said…He who rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God” (2 Sam. 23:3).  To rule in the fear of God means to obey God’s laws, not come up with our own god-less ideas and make them laws (Eccl. 12:13) for God considers this great evil (Psalm 94:20).

Thus, we need to work to scrap government health care and just restore God’s system of health care outlined in Scripture above, which is free of government theft and coercion.

It is not “unrealistic” to do what the Creator of reality says to do. It is wise. It will take some time and a process (repentance followed by education and discipleship and taking responsibility in our own lives as well as throwing off through godly means wicked current legislation) to do it, but it can, by God’s power, be done.

The Inevitable Results

Therefore, any bill proposing government health care will violate God’s laws and the ordained spheres of governing responsibility. Our first parents found that violating God’s good law brings death & destruction.

Just as violating God’s law of gravity or of good health practices invite destruction, so will any government health care because it repudiates God’s rule and will. Government health care specifically invites:

  • Destruction of government’s limited mandate (also violating our covenant Constitution).
  • Destruction of the church’s role of mercy.
  • Destruction of individual/family responsibility.
  • Government tyranny (which comes when it exceeds it’s God-given limits and authorities).
  • Increasing taxation of individual families.
  • Regulation of health practitioners.
  • Eventual discrimination against some citizens (e.g. euthanasia) as opposed to others in the face of limited resources.

These are the inevitable results.

We must get back to God’s word so that our nation may again have liberty and be exalted.***  A rallying cry during the formation of America and its War for Independence was “we will have no other king than King Jesus”.

Are we truly willing to seek God (who has the ability to bring our nation back to it’s biblical roots) until He gives this blessing to us?

—————-

*Isaiah1:22-23: “Your silver has become dross…your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow come before them.” This has been true since Congress launched rebellion against America’s Constitution and people with the Federal Reserve Act passed in 1913. We all suffer.

**Again, God alone has unlimited authority over men and their property. He has given proper and lawful civil government a very limited authority and mandate (see Romans 13). God does not allow government to coerce us to share our goods (e.g. communism, socialism, etc). The early church’s sharing all things (Acts 2-4) was done entirely on a charitable, voluntary basis since God instituted private property rights (cf. Acts 5:4a)

***2 Chronicles 17:9-10 for how our nation will be blest and protected from our foes if we too will repent and teach “the Book of the Law of the LORD”.
